The sofa bed, without the apology
The Coco Sofa Bed is a 2.5-seater Coco in every visible and sittable respect, handmade with the same frame, comfort and loose covers, with a real mattress hidden inside, your choice of fully sprung or memory foam, and a fitted valance keeping the disguise immaculate. The one honest exception: unlike the standard Coco, it cannot be built with a split frame, so the access route deserves a measuring before you order.
The traditional sofa bed is a piece of furniture designed by compromise: a thin mattress folded inside a frame that was never quite a sofa, delivering a slightly bad night on top of a slightly bad sit. We refused the premise the same way we refuse it everywhere else: start with the real thing, and engineer the second purpose into it without diluting the first. So the Coco Sofa Bed is, first and entirely, a Coco.
A proper sofa first
By day, and this is the entire point, nobody can tell. The sit is the Coco sit: the same handmade construction, the same generous cushions, the same loose covers untying via bows for the wash, the same fabric library and trims, and a fitted valance that keeps the base beautifully dressed and the secret perfectly kept. It lives in the sitting room as a sitting room sofa, not as a guest apparatus on standby, which matters because a sofa bed spends perhaps a dozen nights a year being a bed and three hundred and fifty days being a sofa. Most sofa beds are designed for the dozen nights. Ours is designed for the three hundred and fifty days, without surrendering the nights.
A real bed second
When the guests do come, the mechanism unfolds to reveal an actual mattress rather than a padded suggestion, and you choose its character when you order: fully sprung, for the supportive, traditional night, or memory foam, for the contouring one. Your guests sleep on a mattress chosen the way mattresses should be chosen, which is why the morning-after reviews differ so sharply from sofa bed folklore. And then it folds away, the valance drops, the cushions go back, and the sitting room resumes as if nothing happened, which is exactly the trick a good guest room in disguise should pull off.
The honest exception, and an alternative
Two things said plainly. First, the bed mechanism means the Coco Sofa Bed is the one Coco that cannot be built with a split frame, so if your doorways, stairs or lift are tight, measure the route before ordering and send us the numbers; we would far rather solve access on paper than on the pavement. Second, if your guests are occasional and your access is genuinely difficult, remember the quieter alternative: the Barton's 70cm seat depth honestly doubles as a single bed for the odd night, no mechanism required. We will tell you which answer suits your house when we see the measurements, including when the answer is not the sofa bed.

Questions, answered honestly
Is the Coco Sofa Bed comfortable as an everyday sofa?
Entirely, because it is a 2.5-seater Coco first: same handmade frame, same cushions, same loose covers and fabrics, with a fitted valance keeping the base dressed. It is designed for the three hundred and fifty days a year it spends as a sofa, not just the dozen nights as a bed, and by day nobody can tell.
What mattress does the sofa bed have?
A real one, chosen by you at ordering: fully sprung for a supportive, traditional night, or memory foam for a contouring one. It is a genuine mattress rather than the padded suggestion of sofa bed folklore, which is why guests report mornings that surprise them.
Can the sofa bed come apart for difficult access?
No, and we say it plainly: the bed mechanism means this is the one Coco that cannot have a split frame. Measure your route, front door, hallway turns, stairs, lift, and send us the numbers before ordering; if access is genuinely tight we will tell you honestly, along with the alternatives.
What size is the sofa bed?
It is built as a 2.5-seater Coco, a genuinely useful sitting size rather than a token loveseat, dressed with a fitted valance. Ask us for the full dimension sheet for your market and we will also confirm the unfolded bed footprint so you can check the room takes both lives comfortably.
Is a sofa bed worth it for occasional guests?
If guests are regular, yes, wholeheartedly. If they are rare and your access is tricky, the honest alternative is the Barton, whose 70cm depth doubles as a single bed for the odd night with no mechanism at all. Tell us how your house actually hosts and we will recommend accordingly, either way.
