We will draw your room. For free.
If you are choosing a sofa, we will draw an accurate floor plan of your room, completely free. You send us the measurements (and photographs if you have them), and our design team draws your room to scale with sofa options placed in it, so you can see exactly what fits, what flows and what feels right, before you spend a penny.
I want to tell you why we do this, because I think it says everything about how we believe furniture should be bought.
Buying a sofa is one of the biggest decisions you will make for your home. It is the piece everything else gathers around. And yet most people are asked to make that decision by squinting at a product photo, pacing the room heel to toe, and hoping. I have watched friends lay newspaper on the floor in the shape of a sofa and stand in the middle of it looking worried. There is a better way, and it is not complicated. Someone who draws rooms all day long should simply draw yours.
So that is what we do. Our design team draws floor plans every single day: long thin sitting rooms, open-plan kitchens with awkward islands, snugs with three doors and a chimney breast, lovely old rooms where not one wall is straight. They take your measurements and turn them into a clear, to-scale plan, then place the sofa you are considering into it. Sometimes two or three options, side by side, so you can compare a three seater against a pair of two seaters, or see whether the corner arrangement you have been dreaming of actually leaves room for the dog bed and the Christmas tree.
And it is free. Properly free. Not free-if-you-buy, not a deposit, not a voucher in disguise. We draw your room, we send you the plan, and the plan is yours to keep whatever you decide. If the honest answer is that our sofa is wrong for your room, the plan will show that too, and we would far rather you knew.
How it works
You measure, we guide
Measure your room with the simple checklist below. A tape measure and ten minutes is genuinely all it takes, and photographs taken from the corners of the room help us enormously. Send everything over and that is your part done.
We draw your room, to scale
Our design team draws your room properly: walls, windows, doors and the way they swing, radiators, fireplaces, the lot. Then we place your chosen sofa into the plan, at its true size, along with any alternatives worth considering.
You decide, in your own time
The plan comes back to you with our honest thoughts on what works and why. Take your time with it. Show the family. Pin it to the fridge. When you are ready, we are here, and if you would like to go further we can show you the sofa in a picture of your actual room too.
What to send us
Do not worry about being an architect. Rough sketches on the back of an envelope are warmly welcomed; we will do the proper drawing. This is what helps:
- The length of each wall, corner to corner, in centimetres or inches, whichever you think in.
- Doors: where they sit on the wall, how wide they are, and which way they open into the room.
- Windows: where they start and finish along the wall, and the height of the sill if it is low.
- The fixed things: radiators, fireplaces, alcoves, built-in cupboards, sockets you cannot live without.
- Anything staying put: the piano, the dresser you inherited, the television and where it lives.
- Photographs: one from each corner of the room. They tell us about light, proportion and character in a way numbers never can.
Why this little drawing matters so much
A floor plan answers the questions that keep people awake. Will the three seater overwhelm the room or anchor it? Can you still open the door to the garden? Is there an easy path from the kitchen to the window seat, or will everyone be squeezing past everyone else for the next decade? On paper, these answers cost nothing. Discovered on delivery day, they are expensive and sad, and I have heard too many stories of the beautiful sofa that never quite forgave the room it was forced into.
The plan also tells us things you might not think to mention. If your hallway turns sharply or your doorway is a narrow one, we will spot it and talk to you about access early, because our Coco can be made with a split frame that comes apart and is rebuilt inside the room itself. The right moment to solve a tricky staircase is before the sofa is made, not on the pavement.
Nobody should ever have to cross their fingers on delivery day. Not over something made for you by hand.
SophieAnd because every one of our sofas is made to order, in our workshops in England and in America, the plan is not a sales trick to hurry you along. It takes approximately eight weeks to make a sofa properly. A decision worth eight weeks of making deserves an afternoon of proper thought at the start, with a clear drawing in front of you. We are simply giving you the drawing.
A room I remember
One of my favourites was a long, narrow sitting room in a Victorian terrace, the sort of room everyone said could only take a small two seater pushed against the wall. The plan showed something lovelier: a generous sofa floated across the width of the room, facing the fire, with a walkway behind it and a little table for drinks. The room stopped being a corridor and became a place to land. The owner wrote to tell us the sofa had changed how the whole house was used. It had not, of course. The drawing had. The sofa just made good on its promise.
================= NEXT STEPS =================Lovely things to do next
The floor plan is one of several ways we help you decide with complete confidence. All of them are free, and none of them oblige you to anything at all.
Questions, answered honestly
Is the floor plan really free?
Yes, completely. There is no charge, no deposit and no obligation to buy anything. The plan is yours to keep whatever you decide, and we will never chase you with it.
What do I need to send you?
The length of each wall, the positions of doors and windows, anything fixed such as radiators or a fireplace, and ideally a photograph from each corner of the room. A rough sketch with measurements written on it is perfect. The checklist above walks you through it in about ten minutes.
My room is an awkward shape. Can you still help?
Awkward rooms are our favourites, truthfully. Sloping ceilings, bay windows, rooms with five doors, walls that have not been straight since 1890: these are exactly the rooms where a proper plan earns its keep. The trickier the room, the more useful we are.
Do I have to know which sofa I want first?
Not at all. Tell us how you live (films, books, naps, a crowd every Sunday) and we will suggest shapes and sizes as part of the plan. Many people use the floor plan to discover what they want, rather than to confirm it.
How accurate is the plan?
It is drawn to scale from the measurements you give us, with every sofa shown at its true size. If a dimension looks unusual we will check it with you rather than guess, because the whole point is that you can trust the drawing.
What happens after I receive my plan?
Whatever you like. Sit with it for as long as you wish. If you want to go further, we can send free fabric samples, show you the sofa in a photograph of your own room, or talk through access and delivery. And if the plan tells you our sofa is not right for your room, we will say so plainly, because the only thing we want in your house is a sofa you will love for decades.
