The top is solid wood, American Cherry, and like all solid timbers, is subject to movement with changes in humidity. As with virtually any antique tables, their character is often formed through splits and changes in the material over time through exposure to natural elements such as sunlight and humidity changes. This will only add to the character of the piece.

The only way a table top remains totally stable is for it to be made using veneered wood over man made boards. This has an entirely different character (not natural and constant/table)
